Preserving Beauty

Fine art is not only an investment, it's a treasured part of your home!

At Palm Avenue Fine Art, we want to ensure that your original paintings remain vibrant and structurally sound for years to come. It's important to follow a few key care practices, so we asked our trusted conservator for her expert advice on how to best preserve your collection.

Handle Frames with Care

Never clean frames with chemicals!

Instead, gently wipe the frame using a dry, lint-free linen cloth - never with moisture.

Dust Gently and Sparingly

If your painting has a smooth surface (not heavily textured), you may lightly dust it using a clean, soft microfiber duster. Avoid vigorous cleaning, and never use sprays or damp cloths on the painting surface.

Avoid Direct Sunlight

Paintings should be hung away from direct sunlight, which can cause fading and discoloration over time. If your piece is coated with a conservation varnish that includes UV protection, it may offer some safeguard, but minimizing sun exposure is always the safest option.

Check Hanging Hardware Regularly

Over time, the fasteners and wires on the back of your painting may loosen or degrade. Periodically inspect the hardware to ensure your artwork is securely mounted and not at risk of falling.

Move with Caution

When relocating a painting, whether across the room or across the country, take care. Set it in a safe, desginated space like a clean table or an empty room during the process. Accidental bumps or jostling are some of the most common causes of damage.

Art enriches our lives and with thoughtful care, your collection will continue to inspire for generations. If you ever have questions or need professional support, we're happy to help.

Special thanks to Heather Brown, Art Conservator, for the tips!
